The Innu tribe cannot pursue their traditions and beliefs because the Government is handing out the original land for economic beneficial reasons, making it hard for them to ever go back. The government is not realising how important the physical land of nutshimit is to the innu tribe, and for their perseverance. The government continuously hands out land for the use of mining, building of roads and power schemes. It’s also important to notice that the worst damage was done 50 years ago, and that it is today arguable if the Innu tribe is already extinct because of their lack of traditions and because they only live as a tribe once a year. They are also now engaged in these settlements, that do not please them, but do make them less tribe like. After researching the tribe, I have come to the conclusion that it is important to keep the tribal traditions for as long as possible, but also taking what happened 50 years ago as a lesson. Tribes are rare, and many are becoming extinct, and that we need to try to keep them safe and persevere them.
